Dyer's log, "Stardate" 6.5.2014

Finished the mission of a new batch of hand dyed thread for this week, with the help of "number 1" (my husband, Jan). An invasion of tangles threatened the "promenade deck" (studio) but we straightened them out without needing to get out the "photon torpedoes" (scissors).

The "planet below" (kitchen) yielded a treasure of rare "geological findings" (polymer clay beads). When viewed under white light emitted from the "nearest star" (sun) they bear a striking resemblance to a previous batch of hand dyed fiber in my collection. The "ship's counselor" (muse) has recommended a creative course of action that will produce a calm, relaxing effect on my brain waves, without the risk of a holodeck malfunction. Future developments will be documented (I'll tat a funky, one of a kind necklace from these supplies, and show you the results later :-)

What a clever post! I haven't watched anything Star Trek in years, but I certainly understood all the references. Oh, and the colors are lovely!

Thanks, Diane. I live with a houseful of "trekkies" here :)

I was just going to say 'very clever', but Diane beat me to it!

I go way back to the first series from '66-69 and we even went to the Pgh Convention in 1975 when that was a 'new' concept and the first movie wasn't even in sight! All the main players were there except Nimoy, who was trying to distance himself at that time from you-know-who! They were all looking for work! It took Star Wars ('77) to convince movie studios that there might be an audience! Amazing what's happened ever since! I haven't seen the newer 'retro' movies, though! Did enjoy Next Gen and the other spinoffs. DS9 was a little 'dark'

Looking forward to the special item you'll make with this beautiful thread!

Reminder to all to listen to Jane's interview on BBC radio, linked on her post yesterday. It will be available for only a few more days. I note that the British use the dating system of day-month-year. Very confusing to me! Your Stardate to them would be 5.6.2014. However today, which is a very significant date, would be 6.6.2014 in both England and USA! 70 years!

Sorry not a "trekkie" but now know what you were on about! Just to say the colours are great and look forward to seeing what you will make from the latest batch.

Dear Marilee,

I just signed up for the shuttle tatting class you teach on Craftsy. Your friendly way of teaching is very pleasant and although I'm only just starting lesson 4, I already love the class.
Very happy to have found your blog and I think your deyed yarns are simply stunning.
I hope I will be able to find some shuttles in my area, I live in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Otherwise I will order them online.
Anyways, thank you for introducing me to this craft, I'm looking forward to many hours of fun tatting and making beautiful lace.

Regards from Amsterdam,
Linda

P.S. Did I mention I am a trekkie as well? :)

Kathy, your knowledge of the "history of the future" is astounding! Thanks for the reminder to listen to Jane's radio interview, I did and it's wonderful.

Ay, captain! :)

Thanks! Now that I have an assistant I can dye thread more frequently.

Hi Linda, welcome to my blog! There is a tatting guild in the Netherlands. I have received some of their publications, will look for the info and post again when I find it.

Thanks Marilee,
I found a Dutch "tatting circle" Yahoo group, I sent them a request. They might know a "physical" shop where I can get supplies. Otherwise, it's no problem, I buy most of my knitting and sewing supplies online anyway. (my stash is expanding almost with warp speed, the parcel delivery guy and I are already on a first name basis)

Thanks again!
