Here's a basic tatting video I made, about tatting a ring. It shows the way I tat, which is comfortable for me. I know that my way is not the most classic tatting method, but the video may still be helpful for someone who is learning to tat. There are many tatting videos on YouTube now, so if you're trying to learn to tat and one person's method seems awkward for you, try another video from someone else.
This is really helpful, thanks for taking the time to make it! I can needle tat, but would like to learn shuttle both because patterns with two needles are an amazing pain in the arse, what with the finite amount of yarn at any given time, and because my mom just sent me my grandmother's shuttle.
ReplyDeleteIf we can just get past the holidays, there will again be time to play with new things!
Cannot wait to get home tonight and take a look at the video. I am bound and determined that 2012 is going to be my year to really learn!
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas
ReplyDeleteThank you for making these tutorials. I have just started learning to tat and your photos and video of tatting DS and creating a ring are the clearest I have seen and your method looks simpler than others I have seen.
ReplyDeleteDo you make a half stitch at the end ? First or second half stitch ? And do you put your shuttle through the loop with closing ? How about from the backside ? I always find this very confusing.
ReplyDeleteTo answer the questions from Anonymous: No, I do not make an extra half stitch at the end. Usually I do not put my shuttle through the loop before closing - but sometimes I do when tatting from the backside if it makes the ring look better. These little things (and others) are a personal preference for any tatter. Just do whatever looks good to you and makes you happy! Have fun tatting!
