I am working on a design that will have a mock ring with a bead in the center. To do this, start tatting a mock ring (it's actually a chain) leaving a large loop at the beginning. When you have tatted enough to fit halfway around your bead, slip the bead onto the loop, put the shuttle through the loop, and tighten. Then tat the rest of the way around the bead, and do a lock join at the beginning.
The sample is being worked in my 2nd batch of "Roses" hand dyed thread.
Marilee, you make it look so simple! How do you get such beautiful pictures? It must be the thread!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea!! Why didn't I think of tat?!?!?!?!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.

I love this technique and you explained it beautifully. Now, whether I can do it or not.... If With your magic thread, it's a cinch!
ReplyDeleteI like this way and you illustrated it perfectly!

To get the photos, I use a tripod and the camera's self-timer. Glad you found them helpful!
ReplyDeleteGetting the bead in like that is shown in the book "Tatting - the contemporary art of knotting with a shuttle" by Rhoda L. Auld, published 1974. This particular copy had been in my local handweaver's guild library, and they were going to throw it out! Someone who knew I was into tatting rescued it for me.
I did it! Yea! Now, I am going to go do it again and make it look better. Thanks for teaching me a new trick. I just love all of you!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! You just keep teaching me new things.
ReplyDeleteNeat technique and the earrings look amazing.
ReplyDeleteHi Marilee! I just found this blogpost! It must've been right before I started blogging...that is the only reason I can think of for why I might've missed it! Anyway, thank you for the excellent tutorial. I linked back to it from my "Tatting Techniques" links list so I can come back when I need it. You're awesome! Such a pretty picture, too!
ReplyDeleteJust found this and I think you have done a gret job on this lesson....many thanks
