Burnin' the "Midnight Oil"

"Midnight Oil" is the darkest thread I have ever dyed! It is a dark red shading into black. Black is such a hard color to dye, but I think this turned out fairly well. I tatted a necklace experiment from it. Some good elements in the necklace, I think, but I want to change some parts of the design.

  1. The thread color and design are both lovely! The words that CrazyKwilter wrote are the first words that popped into my mind when I saw this...and then I saw her comment and, LOL, I couldn't write what I was going to or I'd be quoting her exactly!
BTW, the beads are beautiful, too. Well, I don't think it needs any changing in the design, but I know myself when I am creating I get fussy and "see" things that need to be changed that others don't. So, if you do change anything I can't wait to see that, too! :)

  2. Oooh, I like the necklace. Maybe an encapsulated teardrop at the bottom instead of the small beads? That thread is beautiful, too. I like how deep the black is. Very nice, as usual!

  3. Thank you, CrazyKwilter. I've just added your lovely site to my blogroll.

TattingChic, you know how it is - never satisfied, LOL.

Thanks, Diane, glad you like it. I had a difficult time trying to capture it in a photograph.

Steph, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by an encapsulated teardrop. Maybe you mean something like what LadyShuttleMaker does on her necklaces? Wow, that would be pretty!

  4. I LOVE the color. The necklace is gorgeous and the color really brings out the design. You are right black is a hard color to get true, but you did a lovely job!
I understand about the design-sometimes you just have to putts until it is perfect!

  7. A total stunner that design and color. Reminds me of an iris I had in my yard this summer. Going over to the darkside is a good thing.

  8. Thanks, TAT19540, the design does need puttzing, since the necklace is too floppy in the middle. Glad you like the color.

Sally, I wish you a Merry Christmas, too!

Merry Christmas to all my blogging friends!

Shelly Jo, the color does tend toward purple as it goes into the black. You are good at deciphering Internet photos!

Anonymous, LOL over your comment about going over to the "dark side".
