Rope Trick

This "rope trick" is something I'm going to show my students at tatting class. It may help the beginners to understand that the tatting knot slides over a core, that the roles of "knot" and "core" can change, and prepare them for the concept of the "flip".

I hope the LBS Spring Retreat students will like what they are getting in their kits. (Anyhow, it's what they're getting, regardless - LOL.) I put in a 2-pack of tatting shuttles, 2 colors of heavy size 3 practice thread, some white cordonnet size 10, some HDT size 10, a size 12 crochet hook, a size 16 crochet hook, a floss threader, an embroidery needle, and enough beads and findings to complete 2 "Lacy Treasure" pendants, along with the pattern. I'll bring along a variety of tatting books and samples of my own tatting for them to see as well.

  1. Looks like an excellent teaching technique! I might just have to borrow the idea for the next class I teach. :D

  2. That's a cool trick! And the baggies are awesome. Can I be in one of your classes? Just to get one of the kits. ;-)

    Good luck with them!

  3. The flip is the hardest part to explain, the rope trick should help. The kit is very nice, everything they will need for a good introduction.
Hope the retreat is fun and results in some new tatters.

  6. I will be teaching tatting to a couple of ladies and was thinking of putting up a starter kit. May I use your ideas for the kits?

  10. I need to say that your students are very lucky, I just started with tatting and I'm learning from the great people like you who share their knowledge. This is not easy when there is nobody who can point the mistakes ans show the right way.
I just need to say thank you.

  12. Your tatting is beautiful. I tried to learn it but just couldn't get the hang of it. I'm glad someone is keeping the art alive.
