Using Single Shuttle Split Ring to hide tails in final ring

I didn't invent this idea. I learned it from smarter tatters!

I like it for tatted earrings and pendants that end with a ring on top. No sewing in ends!

I used my smartphone to make this little video. Here's the finished earrings that I was working on:
Daisy Picot Key Earrings in hand dyed "Peace" and "Celery" size 20
My original pattern for these earrings is in my Next Steps In Shuttle Tatting Craftsy class (my affiliate link may give you a discount). The crystal in the center ring is my added embellishment that's not in the pattern, but a similar demo is shown in another project.

  3. I doubt there are many smarter or more creative tatters out there. I have tried to understand what others are doing with this before but never figured it out until I just watched your video. Holy cow, it's super easy! Thank you so much for your time and clear explanation!

  4. I used to use the SSSR to finish off earrings but then my daughter had a pair disintegrate. Perhaps I had better revisit the technique. If it's good enough for you, it should be good enough for me!

  5. Thanks, everyone!
@Michelle, I'm happy to hear that the video helped!
@Jane McLellan, I used to use the "magic thread trick" and that did come apart. So far, the SSSR seems to be a secure finish because it can be tatted very tightly.

  7. I have this past couple months learned tatting from you on Bluprint. Today I ran across this SSSR and followed the YouTube videos. Fun to do. I don't quite get how it is to be used yet, but So Much to learn! Thanks Marilee!
