A pretty good year

2 necklaces from the "Duchess" pattern in my "Boutique Tatting" book. The green is the original from 2008 in a size 10 thread of a brand I can no longer get. The black is Lizbeth size 10 tatted in 2024. I've learned the difference!

Bobbin lace Dragon designed by GaliciaBee. In 2024 I made progress in learning bobbin lace, which I had been curious about since the 1970s!

Peace symbol in tatting and wire wrapping. We always have hope!

In 2024 I finally wrote up the pattern for this tatted belt, which I experimented with since 2014.

In 2024 I heard a concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City!

Someone asked for a Menorah tatting pattern, so I designed this one, inspired by the branched candlestick by Elgiva Nicholls.

My watermelon pattern came next, either a symbol of summer picnics or support for Palestine.

My largest project in 2024 is the "Leaves of Lace Garland". Currently in round 1 of the jurying process for an exhibition. I'm hoping it gets in!

Brought out my pattern for a "Dissent Collar" again. Yes, I'm a liberal, as most artists are.

I love this bobbin lace pattern by GaliciaBee for which I used thread purchased from her Etsy shop!

Wishing you all a very happy, safe, and creative 2025!

  2. You did have a creative year! Interesting that size 10 threads are not necessarily equal. I look forward to seeing your creations in 2025.

  4. So many beautiful projects, and all done this year! Depending on the brand and where it was made, I have also learned that thread size [pick any size] is not necessarily what you expect when you change to a different manufacturer. I do little samples in every thread - one pattern, always the same (I use the small heart pattern in Patti Duff's "Minitats" book), and compare a new-to-me thread with the others in my little sample book to be sure the new thread matches the others of that size. All the hearts are arranged by size. If a thread's LABEL says '50' but it matches the size 30 threads in my book, it goes in the 'size 30' section. All the hearts have a little write-up - name, size, how well they work for tatting (some don't work as well as others), and any other information I think I may need in the future. It saves a lot of time when you're tatting something that needs to fit - like a hat. For me, trying a new-to-me thread requires a 'swatch,' just like when you're knitting or crocheting. (Hope this helps someone else to avoid tatting almost the whole hat before discovering it would make a good cover for their car. It was HUGE!) Anyway, your projects - as always - are gorgeous, and I enjoy seeing the things you create.

  8. Thank you, everyone! It seems that we've all had a very busy year. An update: my "Leaves of Lace Garland" did not make it into the first exhibition that I entered, but I've just kept going and have entered it into a different one. ☺
