Video - bead in center of tatted ring

I made this video while working on a design that uses beads in the center of rings. Enough of a challenge in itself, but I wanted to use size 10 Lizbeth thread, and many beads don't want to fit on a thread that thick. So, this shows one way to handle the situation, that worked for me.

  4. I've tried several times to make a ring with a bead in center but every time I failed!!
I am Japanese and not good at English so it is very difficult to understand instructions in English. But your videos are very helpful to understand.
I will try this technique and I am sure that I will be able to succeed this time!!
    Thank you!!

  9. Fabulous video. I bought your Up and Tat Em book when it came out so I could make the Tatted Atom for my youngest daughter. I've been trying to make it ever since without success. I think I might be able to do it now . . . hope so anyway!

  10. Thanks for the excellent vid. I have needled tatted with beads and struggled with to adding small hole beads. this is an elegant solution.

  12. I love your tutorials. Very clear. Is it possible to add a bead to the centre of a needle tatted ring? If it isn't then I shall have to learn to tat with a shuttle.

  13. Yes, Donna, it a bead can be added to a needle tatted ring too. Start tatting the ring (off the ball, the common way of needle tatting a ring). When halfway done with the ring, slide the needle through the stitches, but before closing, slip a bead onto the loop. Then put the needle though the loop, and finish closing. Then continue needle tatting the rest of the ring, and then slide the needle through those stitches and through the small opening at the base of the bead. I don't needle tat very often, so there may be something mixed up in these directions, but hopefully you can figure out the gist of it.
Keep in mind that needle tatting works up larger than shuttle tatting in the same size thread, so if following a pattern designed for shuttle tatting you may need to adjust the stitch count to get the needle tatting and the bead to fit together tightly.
