Well, I just thought it would be cool to make a piece of jewelry using one of my spent cello strings.
The tatted motif is one that I made up, sort of as I went along. It's a bit odd, but fits the string.
I used size 20 Lizbeth cotton and size 11/0 seed beads, with a jet faceted teardrop at the bottom.
What a great idea! How did you attach the fastener?
ReplyDeleteWow! You made that up as you went along??? You are amazing! It looks great! :)
ReplyDeleteabsolutely beautiful!

Thanks! Attaching the fastener was the hardest part for me. I chose to bend over the ends of the cello string, then covered them with a finding called a "cord end" and flattened it with a pliers over the ends of the string. Then attached the clasp with a jump ring.
ReplyDeleteNow that's what I call the ultimate in recycling!
ReplyDeleteI used to make flowers out of my old guitar strings :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's very cool! And just think, you've got pretty much an endless supply of wires, too.
ReplyDeleteSuper cool. What a great idea!

Recycling at it's finest, and the black and orange is perfect for Halloween. I like the way it fits on the string; looks like it will stay where it's supposed to.
ReplyDeletejust received my order today - thanks for the super fast delivery and congratulations for the quality and colours of yours threads
ReplyDeleteas for this cello-necklace : it's really beautiful, and so original, i love it
Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteThe beads are actually an iridescent red - very hard color to capture in a photo. But, I do have some orange ones...hmmm, you've got me thinking!
Wow, I never thought of doing that!!
ReplyDeleteIt's really pretty, too!
Guess I'll be saving up my old cello strings... who knew that cello parts could be so multi-purpose!
Hi Marilee
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to find you email addy, looked for you on HBT, but have failed to do so. I've really enjoyed wandering around your web site.
Could you please tell me the price of a ball of 'cool waters'? Also the postage cost to England?
Many thanks,
Anne in Derbyshire, England.
Anne, my hand dyed thread is for sale at my Etsy shop:

They have a feature now that allows the prices to be shown in your own currency - just click on the link to the right of the price.
Shoppers on Etsy need to have an account there, but that is free and easy to sign up - here is the page to register, if you are new to Etsy:

Whatever hand dyed thread you see in my shop is all I have. It is always in limited supply because I lovingly hand paint it all myself.
I don't do custom orders.
What a 'notable' idea! Love the look. Do you plan on wearing it while you play? Would like to see a picture of that!
