The white didn't stay so white, but the red and blue are good, rich colors in my latest batch of hand dyed thread. I tried to keep a large section of white, but the dye had ideas of it's own :)
It could be used in addition to a solid white thread.
Will be teaching a live Beginning Shuttle Tatting workshop at Shake Rag Alley on May 31st:

Hey to keep the white white you might try waxing that part unless you are boiling them with color.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Madtatter80, for the suggestion. All I know of waxing is for the batik process, which is much different than what I do (handpainting the dye on with a brush).
ReplyDeleteMarilee that's very patriotic, for us in the UK. I love this thread.
ReplyDeleteMargaret
just use the the clear paraphin wax not a bees wax it would yellow it and then I would dip white in and then continue on and dip in very hot water to melt it off again when you finish, I used to do t-shirts but I am sure I would try it :) let me know if you give it a wurl :)
ReplyDeleteI like the way the colors bleed into the white, making a less sever transition of color. Beautiful and very patriotic!
ReplyDeleteWe need to get together not only give you your tatting but I have shuttles for your class. Got batik wax too.
ReplyDeleteDear marilee, how I wish I could jump in a plane and attend your class. What a sweet dream,..
ReplyDeleteThe colors are so vibrant and rich. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteUsually I don't care for red white and blue, but that is fabulous!!! :)
