"Celery"

In this photo you see size 20 HDT, some tatting done with it, some actual celery (the vegetable itself), and one of LadyShuttleMaker's handmade ceramic shuttles. To quote my teenage son, "The thread looks more like celery than the celery does" - LOL! I had to agree, because the veggie did seem awfully dull compared to the brightly colored thread. Still, I couldn't think of another name to call it. Incidentally, I did dye a batch with the same name quite some time ago, and this is similar, but "tweaked" (to try and spice it up) so it probably won't match exactly, in case you still have some of the old stuff lying in a drawer (what are you saving it for?!!)

Size 20 used the base thread of Lizbeth this time. Just so you know, my 2010 plan is: to eventually use all the sizes that Lizbeth comes in as the base for my hand dyed thread in the 6 cord type. I'm gradually replacing as I run out of the stock I have on hand. I am very picky about thread, and I wouldn't be doing this if Lizbeth wasn't a high quality, lustrous, strong, beautiful thread, which it has shown itself to be. The tatting in the photo is the hand dyed Lizbeth.

What a gorgeous photo!

I think I may have to break my resolution not to buy more thread!

As a matter of fact, I am getting very picky , as well, about thread. The Cébélia just isn't cutting it any more at all. I have a bunch of it and am at a loss as to what to do with it.

Ah, the rigours of experience!

Well, if you know anyone who crochets, the Cebelia would be a treat for them.

The celery thread is beautiful, and yes I still have some of the original. I don't know what I'm hanging on to it for. I guess I just don't have enough time to tat!

Did you see that Lacis sells cones of Lizbeth?

I love the 'celery'! I agree I really like the Lizbeth thread. It is better than Flora thread I think and definitely better than Cebelia. I see another hdt thread order in my future.lol.

Thank you, everyone, for the nice comments! Yes, I have a source for getting the Lizbeth on cones, which is one of the reasons I decided to start dyeing it.

That is a most marvelous picture! That thread looks good enough to eat, too. I'm not really big on greens, but I love this!

I know this is an old post, but could you tell me where to find this pattern? Thanks!

It's a vintage edging pattern. So sorry I didn't post what book I found it in, and now I have no idea where I got it. At the time my purpose was only to display how the thread looked when worked up. Since it's vintage, I see no harm in writing the pattern out, here goes:

Large ring 4-4-4-4. RW.
Ch 3-2-2-3. RW.
Small ring 5+5 (to nearest picot of large ring). RW.
Ch 3-2-2-3. RW.
Small ring 5+5 (to same picot of large ring). RW.
Ch 3-2-2-3. Lock Join to next picot of large ring. RW.
Ch 3-3. RW.
Ring 4+2-2-4 (join to middle picot of adjacent chain). RW.
Ch 3-3. Do not RW.
Repeat from the beginning for pattern.
