One each month 2025

Some creatives have been posting online about their projects completed in 2025, so here is my collection of one photo from each month.

January: Bobbin lace bookmark, pattern designed by Jenny Brandis.

February: Earrings in progress from "Tourmaline" hand dyed thread. (Actually, I don't remember finishing the pair, so I'll look for them!)

March: Heart Ukraine, pattern designed by FairyLaceAndMore

April: Commemorative shuttle displayed over my hand dyed thread, a happy memory from my trip to the Finger Lakes Tatting Conference for their 25th anniversary gathering.

May: Crocus in needle lace, my own design and a learning experience in trying needle lace.

June: Bag with tatted letters which accompanied me to several protest rallies. The tatting pattern for this alphabet style was designed by FairyLaceAndMore.

July: I opened an online shop on Goimagine, originally as a protest against some of Etsy's violations of their own policy guidelines, and now just enjoying having a 2nd shop with lower fees. I wish Goimagine would expand beyond the USA, maybe someday they will.

August: Shell earrings from a pattern I teach in a Craftsy class.

September: So exciting to see my own tatting displayed in Tiny Studio magazine, issue 28.

October: A lovely autumn day walking past all sorts of wild aster flowers inspired the dye batch "Asters".

November: My fiber art "Exuberance" was displayed in Artistonish magazine by Biafarin.

December: My free original pattern "One Small Candle" as a tree ornament.

My artwork has been selected

Detail photo of "Exuberance"

Today I received confirmation that "after an inspiring and highly competitive jury process" my artwork "Exuberance" has been officially selected to be published in the 63rd issue of Artistonish Magazine!

I'm actually surprised and very much thrilled! There will be promotional badges and social media features to come when the October 2025 issue is published. Upon entering, I did make it clear that this is my original design, so it is a unique expression of my distinct ideas and artistic interpretation, making a unique work of art.

Tatting in tinyStudio Creative Life Magazine

First 2 pages of the 6 page article that appears in issue 28 of Creative Life Magazine

So exciting! My tatting appears in issue 28 of tinyStudio Creative Life Magazine! To order a digital or a printed copy of this colorful, joyful, and creative fiber arts magazine go to https://www.fiberygoodness.com/

I was contacted by the editor a few months ago when she saw my tatting on social media and asked if I'd like to write an article sharing my process "in my own voice" about my approach to tatting. I had not seen the tinyStudio Creative Life magazine before (it's published in New Zealand) so I looked at the website and was amazed at what a big, beautiful, and inspiring magazine it is. I felt honored to be asked (and paid) to write an article to appear in it.

Harlequin in progress

Where did this motif come from?
Actually, it's a small design element that I had used in my "Nexus of Joy" necklace, which I was very surprised to find that when repeated, it fit together to form a harlequin diamond shape! So what to do with this? Well, I don't know! But, now that I've gotten past the "all those ends to hide" annoyance, I quite like it and will probably add more in different colors to find out what happens.

Yes, I bought a physical copy of the magazine just to admire my work in print! Well, as a friend told me, "We are at the age where the warranty expires!" so I'm just going to keep going while everything still works, and do it with joy!  :-)

700 words later

Tatting and wire pendant

In times past, I would have saved the following announcement as a surprise, but oh well, you wonderful blog readers will find out early! My pendant will be featured in the June 2023 issue of Belle Armoire Jewelry

I submitted my pendant in January, according to the instructions that appear in the back pages of each issue. A few days ago I received a notice from their senior managing editor saying that my piece has been chosen for a spotlight in the June issue. That includes a full page photo of the jewelry along with a one page article. So I was asked to write an article about my technique and materials in general (not a detailed step-by-step) for which I'll receive a monetary compensation.

Okay, so I just finished writing about 700 words!

Well, that's enough writing for today - just wanted to share the excitement!

About the heart bracelet

The Belle Armoire Jewelry winter 2015 issue shows my original tatted jewelry set including necklace, earrings, and bracelet, but since the bracelet is modeled the sides aren't shown. So here's a photo of the complete bracelet.

I've done some experimenting with clasps. I like toggle clasps because they're easy to close. I know that a lobster claw clasp allows for more adjusting, but personally I have a terrible time trying to fasten a lobster claw clasp on a bracelet. So, I look for easier solutions.

On the white bracelet I discovered that the t-bar fits perfectly into the lace. So, the bracelet can be snugged up tighter by pulling the t-bar through the toggle loop, then hooked into the lace.

By the way, the wire wrapped toggle clasp on the white bracelet I made myself! I'm enjoying learning some basic wire wrapping skills from 2 Craftsy classes that I signed up for:
"Wire-Wrapped Stones, Crystals, and Clusters" by Aga Kruk
"Make Your Own Wirework Findings" by Lisa Niven Kelly

Coming soon in the Winter issue of Belle Armoire Jewelry

Spilling the beans a few days early: a new, original pattern by me will appear in the Winter issue of Belle Armoire Jewelry magazine! It will be on sale beginning December 1st. But, I'm so excited I couldn't wait anymore to tell you all!

There is a bracelet to match the necklace and earrings that is modeled in the magazine. I put a chain on the necklace for the magazine article. The ones pictured here have ribbon attached to wire connectors for a different look, using the same pattern.

The tatting pattern with in-progress photos and a diagram will be in the magazine, I realize that some of my blog readers are not familiar with Belle Armoire Jewelry, but it is a popular jewelry craft magazine here in the USA, and I'm hoping the article will get more people interested in tatting.

Tatting article in Bead&Button Magazine

Pages 24 through 26 of the April 2012 issue has a tatted jewelry article written by me! (Doin' the happy dance!)

There are tatting basics plus instructions there for a pair of simple earrings, and photos of some of my other work. Some people may be curious about the green and black pendant. It's essentially the same pattern as 5 Petal Pendant from the Up and Tat 'Em book, with a change to the outer round. I strung seed beads on the shuttle thread, then tatted Ch 2, slide a bead into place, Ch 2, 4 times for each section.

2 whole pages

A surprise came in yesterday's mail - my tatting was published in another magazine! Here's a snapshot of the 2 page spread featuring my tatted items in the September/October issue of Belle Armoire, but you'll need to see the actual magazine (coming out next month) in order to get the full effect of this publication's glorious photography. All I did was submit the tatted jewelry through the mail. It got accepted, and their professional photographer took the photos. Wow! They sure do make it look good :-)

You may recognize this tatting from my Beguile Set, which I included in my Up and Tat 'Em book. But, you may ask, "Where is the pattern for the bracelet variation that the model is wearing?"

Well, here's what happened: I finished that particular bracelet quite a long while back, and forgot to take a photo of it before shipping it to the magazine. So, I didn't have the sample on hand while I was writing Up and Tat 'Em, and couldn't remember what I had done.

My tatted necklace "Vision" was chosen to appear in
"Belle Armoire" magazine!!!
