Nearly a year ago, I bought a bottle cap pendant from the seller in the booth next to mine at the Discovery World Holiday Artisan Market. I told her at the time that I'd tat it into something.
Well, now I have!
I added some gears into the necklace by joining into them with normal joins while tatting.
By fiddling around with the ring, I discovered that the tatted ring could be easily maneuvered to lie under the gear, so the gear would be prominent on top of the tatting.
I decided to call this design Newcastle because that was written on the other side of the bottle cap.

Wow - That's so nice!!
Amazing what we can do when we leave our imaginations to run wild. LOL!
Marilee,
That is so cool! I love how gears are able to be turned into something fancier than would be expected by some. Simply amazing!
Thanks!
Lily, you got it - I did just let my imagination run wild!
BSOTF, it was fun playing around with those gears - I didn't have a clue what I was going to use them for at first.
I envy your mind. *sigh* That is incredibly creative and the colors are so just right.
Wow this is an amazing piece! Love the creative combination of elements.
Thanks, Marty. My mind is okay for some stuff, but not much good for many other things, LOL.
Thank you, Jen. The idea started coming to me once I had a few of those elements laid out together.
Very very nice, Marilee!
So interesting to see how people get inspired ;-)
A bead on the thread and tat!
Super! Pozdrawiam:)
Your necklace looks wonderful! What a neat idea, to get your inspiration from something like a bottle cap - of course, it's a pretty cool bottle cap. The gears make quite an accent on it.
OMGG this is sooooo beautiful - I LOVE it and hope my monies improve so I can order it for myself!! This is the most beautiful one I've seen in ages. LOVELY!!!
Wow! Stunning! I can almost envision all sorts of Steampunk tatted jewelry.
I'm not sure my imagination is as good as yours though. :)
Beautiful! I wish I could wear something like this but I'll just admire it instead. The design and workmanship are superb!
just goes to prove that Tatting goes with everything!
I agree. Beyond cool!! I am envious and you are talented! Thank you for sharing it with us.
That's soooo.. cool!
And it is so pretty!
Love it.
Thank you to everyone for such wonderful comments!
Interesting to see that so many people find tatting is "cool" :)
I have to say ...I love your new necklace!! It is beautiful!!
Love these colors together.
Marilee! This awesome and the chain attached is great. Do you starch the work after tatting it?
Most of the time I don't stiffen my tatted pieces. The thread used in this one is size 10 Lizbeth, which has quite a bit of firmness to begin with. The beaded part sticking up in the middle of this particular necklace is a little heavy, but I think the surrounding chains should support it enough. Anyway, I'll just leave it - I don't think it needs any starch.
This is positively medieval-looking! I can see it on the neck of a noblewoman... at a great fête!
You do astounding work!
Fox : )
It's your most beautiful necklace. Wonderful!
What an awesome necklace! I'm always amazed at the clever ideas you come up with. :)
