The big mystery project revealed

That's me in the Craftsy studio!

Earlier this month, in a previous post I told you that I was working on a big project. Now, at last, I can reveal what it is! I have been preparing an Online video course for shuttle tatting to be offered at Craftsy.com!

I spent 3 exciting days (May 21-23) at the Craftsy studio in Denver, Colorado, where their professional crew shot the course in HD-quality video. They've told me that I did a good job of teaching, even though I was a bit nervous when the cameras were rolling. The course will be ready to offer after the editing, which may take several weeks. I really enjoyed working with the friendly folks at Craftsy, and everyone was super nice! I'm thrilled to bits that they wanted to include tatting in their course offerings, and asked me to teach it!

If you're not familiar with how Craftsy courses work, here's a quick summary:
Craftsy courses are much more than just video! While taking a Craftsy course, you can:
  •     Ask your instructor questions, upload photos, and get personalized responses
  •     Participate in discussions with your classmates
  •     Access supporting course materials – including patterns and helpful tips & tricks
  •     Bookmark your favorite moments in the video so that you can easily re-watch them and take notes that you can refer back to anytime
There are a lot of courses on many subjects at Craftsy, including knitting, crocheting, quilting, jewelry making, gardening, couture sewing, cake decorating, and so much more.

The trip itself contained a lot of "firsts" for me: my first time traveling by airplane, the first time having makeup applied by a professional make-up artist, the first time I saw real mountains - the Rocky Mountains, seen in the distance in the photo at bottom, taken just outside the Craftsy studio.

How exciting! Gosh I wish there were opportunities like this years and years ago -- learning to tat by watching someone would have been so much easier than teaching myself. Congratulations on the Craftsy experience. :)

Thanks, Karrieann! It was a truly wonderful adventure!

Jane S., thanks, and I agree, the opportunities for learning are amazing with today's technology. It should help a lot of people to learn to tat.

Oh, how cool! We all knew you were good here in Tatland, now others can see, too. I'm sure that with you as the teacher in such a great venue there will be a lot of new tatters soon. Congrats on this great opportunity.

Thanks so much, everyone!!!
It really was a grand adventure. I just hope I did a good enough job of showing tatting techniques in the video. I was nervous and sometimes had trouble with things that seem so easy when no one is watching. But, I figure if it gets people interested in tatting, it will serve its purpose.

HOW EXCITING!!!! We're SO PROUD of you!! What a great adventure! And how wonderful that they recognized your many talents! You're an EXCELLENT teacher, and your own tutorials and videos are top-notch!

I joined Craftsy at your urging, but I haven't checked out any videos yet! This apparently is a whole new kind of interactive instruction!

And was this actually your very first trip in an airplane? Great scenery, too!

Congratulations! What an amazing experience that must have been. And how cool to have Craftsy offer tatting lessons! Do you know if they plan on adding "Tatting" as a craft category? I would love to be able to browse just tatting there instead of "Other"...

Marilee Rockley said...

Thank you!

By the way, if you put "tatting" or "tatted" in the search box on Craftsy when browsing patterns or projects, quite a few items already come up. If you sign up for a Craftsy account (it's free!) then you can put pictures of your own projects on there. We need to get more tatters on Craftsy. If there would be enough tatting on the site, I think they would add tatting as a craft category.

I am already there. Yes, it makes sense to have more projects there before asking for the category...
