Progress on the book: the days fly by

The days fly by at an alarming rate of speed, but the book of my original beaded tatting patterns is coming along. So far I have the basic how-to section of the book done, 3 patterns fully completed, and 2 more partially completed. I expect to put a total of about 15 of my original designs into the book. This will probably make it a little thicker than my previous books.

Photo at left shows a bead being added to the project thread via a wide-eye beading needle and a bit of sewing thread. Occasionally that's a method needed for slipping a bead over a doubled size 10 thread. I prefer to just hook the beads on using a small crochet hook, but it doesn't always work with size 10. From my experience with both Czech beads and Swarovski crystal pearls, I've discovered that the Czech beads have slightly larger holes, so I'm going to use those when I can.

If I don't stay focused on the book, the rest of life may take over, and the book wouldn't get done for a long time. So, don't be concerned if my Etsy shop is sort of "left fallow" for a short while.

Looking very desireable. Will all the designs be with size 10? Karen in OR

No, most of the designs are in size 20 thread. I like size 20 because all the beads fit on it without any problems! But, sometimes I like a chunkier look, so then I use size 10 thread. Mostly no problem with size 10, except when I try to put a round 4mm or 6mm bead over a picot or whenever the thread's doubled. I don't mind the fussing with the beads, I'm used to it; but I don't want my published patterns to be too hard for other people to make.

I find your designs so enticing, I can't wait to see the book ! I voted for you on Craftsy (in the crochet section, I hope it was the right one) as best instructor because you are the lady who taught me how to to tat, and thanks to you I can now have a great time with all sorts of threads and designs. It is funny how the person who teaches you a skill can hold a place in your heart. Do not be scared, though, I live too far away from you to come and stalk you in a creepy needy way, plus, I'm not the stalking type ;) But I take cover behind the distance and relative anonymity of the blog to say that I am truly grateful for your course.
Happy tatting to you !

I'm quite envious of your great expertise in using beads with tatting, not to mention the amazing artistry of your designs. And you are so generous to share your techniques! I also prefer size 20 thread for jewelry for its strength and for seeing the knots clearly.

I can't help wondering if you get a reprieve from housekeeping chores and
cooking when you're working on your books!
