Needlebook with tatted closure and "Roses" HDT

There's an easy-to-follow tutorial by jessyratfink on Instructables on how to sew a needlebook. I used it as a guide for making my own needlebook, changing it just a bit to suit myself.

I made my needlebook smaller, 3"x4" closed, to fit more easily into my tatting project bag. Of course I wanted a tatted closure! This one is something I just made up, but I think there are many small motif's that would work. Just add a tatted loop long enough to fit around the button. The elastic is simply put through openings in the lace of the tatting, before sewing it into the seam as usual.

As a personal challenge, I selected some photos that my husband is offering in his Etsy shop JantasticPhotos, printed them onto photo transfer paper, and ironed them onto the fabric before cutting and sewing. It's the first time I've tried the photo transfer process, and I'm pleased with how well it turned out!

The dye batch this week is "Roses", and I think that completes the rose series for a while. Fall colors will be arriving in a little while. Summer just flew by way too fast!

Beautiful thread, really lovely as the roses themselves
Lovely needle case, well done on transferring the picture on to the fabric.

Gorgeous thread. Adding the photo to your needle book sounds really interesting. Combined with tatted closure, you have something unique and lovely.

Your Roses thread is so beautiful! Neat idea to tat a closure for your needle case. Looks great.

I love that thread, and the needle case is really pretty. I downloaded a bunch of photos of frog closures I'm going to try and tat. Have you ever thought of adding a few drops of essential oil to the rinse water after you dyed it?
Will the rose thread be able to be blended with the autumn thread when you dye it?

What a lovely thought, to be tatting with sweetly perfumed thread! But, probably easier to just have some potpourri in the room where you're tatting, I think.

I have used the "Roses" thread as an autumn leaf color. Here's how it looks: Maple Leaf Earrings

Wow, those are great ideas - and I love the thread color!

Please let me know how your needlebook works out for you... My mom used to keep her needles in a piece of material, but they ended up rusting. I'm not sure if it was the needles or what. But I'm very curious to know how it does for you, as I'm interested in making one for myself.

Thanks!
