I think I've got it! Just needed to "rotate" my thinking!So I turned the bead the
other way in the mock ring so the threads would be coming out of the top, not the sides - that
way I could end off at the top!
The additional side chains even add some stability, I think.
So now the whole thing can be done with one shuttle, and
no tricky split chain.
Yep, this one is going in the book!

It just keeps getting better and no split chain to boot. Sounds like a winner to me.
Before I published my first book I had to drastically change many of the patterns to make them as simple to tat as possible.
So I guess I am trying to say that there are "many ways to skin a cat" so to speak.
These are lovely and I would like a book too!
